MUSIC AND NATION
The string quartet feels ubiquitous today, but in the 18th century, it was just taking shape. Through his dozens of quartets, Haydn established, honed, and elevated the form, shaping our modern understanding of it. We’ll hear one of his most beloved works, followed by Dvořák’s vibrant and lyrical G Major Quintet. By augmenting the quartet with double bass, Dvořák expands the ensemble’s sonic palette, creating a rich and unexpectedly complex sound world that celebrates the warmth and spirit of his Bohemian roots.
